AquaPro Above Ground Heat Pump 60K BTU

The motor was frozen yesterday but I took it apart and turned it by hand and then it started working but its running hot.
I am getting water in the pump and everything seems to be running smoothly but the pump feels hot to my hand after running for just a few minutes.

The suction for the pool pump works fine until I have to change the filter or shut the pump off for any reason. When I turn it back on there is no suction in the skimmer. It’s a two hose pump and I unscrew the top knob of the pump to release the excess air. If I mess with the skimmer and pump enough after a few minutes or so the suction will work again, however I’m afraid I will burn out the pump leaving it running without suction for five to ten minute before it works again. Am I missing a step when turning on the pump. Any helpful suggestion would be most appreciated.
